A breakthrough in fastening material technology
When sub-sea customers demanded a high-strength fastener that could cope with extremely corrosive environments, BUMAX built on the success of its duplex stainless steel grades to develop BUMAX DX 129. The grade combines the mechanical strength of class 12.9 carbon steel with the corrosion resistance of duplex stainless steel.
What made BUMAX DX 129 truly innovative was its excellent balance of properties. With a Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number (PREN) value above 34, it delivered corrosion resistance far beyond standard stainless steel, while offering lower thermal expansion and superior elongation compared to many high-strength alternatives. This offered engineers a new fastener solution in environments where reliability is critical and failure is not an option.
BUMAX DX 129 proved to be the only fastener solution able to combine the necessary 12.9 strength class with long-term corrosion resistance in highly demanding sub-sea environments. From offshore energy systems to other highly demanding industrial applications, DX 129 established itself as a symbol of strength, durability and fastener innovation.
